The LGLLS Player Agent will strive to place your athlete based on the below guide. This is not always possible as the number of athletes that enroll as well as the number volunteers affect the program.
T-Ball (Primarily League Ages 4-6) This is a basic introduction to softball. The players learn the fundamentals through practice and games. Players hit the ball off of a stationary tee and play in the field with coaches nearby to help with instruction. The TB Division is required for all League Age four year old players with placement in this division done by League Age and teams organized by the LGLLS’s Player Agents. It is an instructional division where players hit off a tee rather than hit a pitched ball using Reduced Impact Force (RIF) or “safety” balls, no scores are kept, every offensive player bats each inning regardless of outs, and no player sits on defense. Players are taught the fundamentals of softball such that they are exposed to playing positions and are taught throwing, catching, batting, defensive ready position and running the bases.
A (Primarily League Age 6 & 7) This level is intended to be a Transition Softball division geared to 7 year olds with little or no experience and 6 year olds with up to one or two years of t-ball experience. The goal of this division is instructional, with an emphasis on player development, teaching basic skills and introducing softball rules. Pitching at this level is by the coach and neither scores nor standings are kept. If a player does not have success hitting the ball from the coach, a tee will be used for the athlete to gain confidence.
AA (Primarily League Age 7 & 8) At this level, players improve their fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Fundamentals and sportsmanship are still stressed along with the strategies required for competitive play. It is an instructional division where players hit regulation little league 11 inch softballs pitched by coaches for ½ of the game and by players for ½ of the game. Outs are recorded with three ending each half inning, and only ten defensive positions are used (meaning extra players rotate sitting each inning). Players are taught the fundamentals of softball such that they are exposed to playing positions and are taught throwing, catching, batting, defensive ready position and running the bases. Players are now allowed to steal bases. Umpires are used, scores are kept, and standings are recorded. A post-season tournament will determine a champion for the league.
AAA (Primarily League Ages 9-10) The skills that the players have been accumulating finally come together as they now work as a team pitching, hitting and fielding the ball. Fundamentals and sportsmanship are still stresses along with the strategies required for competitive play. The AAA Division is primarily for League Age nine and ten year old players with eight year old players being allowed to try-out (but with usually less than a dozen allowed by the Player Agent to be drafted into AAA). Players pitch, all players bat in the line-up, nine defensive positions are used (meaning three outfielders), and scores and standings are kept. Trained volunteer umpires enforce Little League Softball and Local Board Adopted Rules. Players are taught advanced fundamentals of softball such that they are exposed to pitching techniques, playing positions, defensive pre-pitch preparedness, live batting, bunting, and aggressive base running. A post-season tournament will determine a champion for the league.
Majors (Primarily League Ages 11-12) The skills that the players have been accumulating come together as they now work as a team pitching, hitting and fielding the ball. Fundamentals and sportsmanship are still stresses along with the strategies required for competitive play. The majors division is primarily for League Age eleven and twelve year old players with some ten year old players traditionally drafted onto AAA Division teams as well. Players pitch, all players bat in the line-up, the standard nine softball defensive positions are used and scores and standings are kept. A post-season tournament will determine a champion for the league.
Juniors (League Ages 13-14 only) Players continue to refine their skills and compete at a higher level.
Seniors (League Ages 15-18 only) Players continue to refine their skills and compete at a higher level. Play begins later in the spring following the high school season.

Can my daughter play up in to another division?
Yes, players are allowed to “play up” into a higher age group, when approved by our Player Agents following an evaluation. Players are not allowed to “play down” into lower age groups.
- For example, a 6-year old who has played in T-Ball one year, may be moved up to AA, upon request.
- Also, a 10 year-old may try-out for Majors, but if not selected to a Majors team, she would be placed onto a AAA team.
Our registration system is aged based so you will be requried to sign up in the lower division. Please put into the registration notes that you want to be moved into the next division. How are players assigned to teams and divisions?
All players are assigned to an appropriate division by the LGLLS Player Agents based on:
• Participant's Playing Age (age as of December 31 of the prior playing year)
• Previous Little League experience (number of seasons played and previous divisions)
• Manager/Coach evaluations from any previous season
• Number of players/teams at each level that can be accommodated by available fields
• Overall benefit to league (e.g., competitive balance, scheduling, etc)
• Tryout results
Those players who meet the criteria for the next division will be moved onto a team in that division; those who do not will play in their current division for the upcoming season.

Can we request a specific manager or teammate during registration?
LGLLS does allow participants to request one or two teammates for carpooling purposes during registration. While those requests will be reviewed and considered, we cannot guarantee that requests will be granted.
Teammate requests for players will be considered but are not guaranteed, especially if a request will unfairly effect the competitive balance of the teams in the opinion of LGLLS Player Agents.

Will I receive a registration confirmation email?
Yes, you will receive an automated registration confirmation email from the league. If you don't receive your email confirmation, check your spam and/or junk email folders.

When and how will I find out about my player's team assignment?
During a LGLLS Fall season, all players are assigned to divisions and teams by LGLLS Player Agents. Team assignment notifications are made via email in late August.
During a LGLLS Spring season, team assignment notifications are made via email by mid-March.

How do I register for a Loudoun Girls Little League season?
Loudoun Girls Little League accepts only online registration and payment. You may register during open registration by visiting our website and clicking on the registration link. Our registration system accepts VISA or Mastercard credit cards.

What is a “borrowed player”?
A pool of players from existing regular season teams can be created with players that are willing to participate in extra games during the regular season when teams face a shortage of rostered players for a regular season game. If you interested in playing additional games, please contact the Player Agent

Will All-Star play be available at the end of the season?
Loudoun Girls Little League may elect to have All-Star teams available to play in the Virginia State tournies for 9/10, 10/11 and 11/12 age groups. If teams are formed, practice will be a few weeks prior to the tourney as Little League, International rules allow for when these teams can be formed and announced. The tourneys are normally played beginning the 2nd or 3rd weeks in July. If you are interested in learning more on this opportunity, please view our All-Stars page.

Do we need to provide a copy of the player's birth certificate?
Yes, LGLLS requires all players to provide copies of birth certificates to verify age eligibility to play in the league. The league will keep all copies of birth certificates on hand until the player is no longer eligible to participate in the in league, at which time the documents will be destroyed.
For American birth certificates, the copy needs to include the official raised seal. Photocopies of birth certificates can be sent via

What is LGLLS's waitlist policy?
LGLLS Player Agents will determine which players, if any, we are able to accept from our waitlist. Players are not necessarily accepted from the waitlist on a "first come, first served" basis. A player will only be placed in a division appropriate for his skill level, which the Player Agents determine according to age, playing experience, previous divisions played, past coach evaluations, and tryout results. When choosing between waitlist candidates with similar qualifications, number of seasons played with LGLLS is also considered. In short, we strive to give players the opportunity of a positive playing experience, while minding the interests of the affected team(s) and the league overall.
